Week 4 of Luke

Take out your phone, pull up a music video or just go to your favorite song that gets you all pumped up – like some sort of “rock” song or highly motivating song.  As the song begins try to quiet your heart and focus on God in prayer.  As you read this previous sentence you probably are thinking, that does not even make sense.  Why would I do something like that?  You are absolutely correct, but we constantly are doing this very thing so often.  We are in a battle.  There is a war raging for our lives.  This war may not always seem obvious, but that is all a part of the enemies strategy.
This week in Luke we will see the Temptations that Jesus faced.  Jesus had the strength to not give into Satan’s plan and in  a few weeks we will see that Jesus even has the power and strength to defeat Satan’s plan.
As you prepare for Discussions with Life Group or others in your life that you are walking the spiritual journey with, read Luke 4:1-14 and ask the Holy Spirit to give you guidance and encouragement.

Discussion Questions For Week 4 of Luke

  • When you are beginning your quiet time with the Lord at your regular place and time, what is the most common distraction for you?
  • In John 8:44 we see that Satan is a liar and murder – how can you apply that to the distraction from the previous question?
  • Have you ever thought about Jesus’ filling of the Holy Spirit being the same Holy Spirit that fills us as His Children?  What does that mean regarding the distraction in the first question?
  • When does Satan – his demons – attack you?  (tired, alone, hungry, bored, fearful, celebrating, feeling entitled, … )
  • Satan attacks Jesus’ – Trusting Of God, His Comfort and His Identity.   Which of these three are most commonly attacked in your life?
  • Read from Luke 4:1-14 Jesus’ Responses to Satan.  How can these responses be applied to the attacks on your life –
My bread / provision / comfort does not come from bread alone …
Worship the Lord your God ONLY …
Do not put God to the test …
  • Why was Jesus going to suffer?
  • On the Worship Folder this week the question is a little different.  How can you explain to yourself the life of Jesus through his defeating temptations?  How can you explain to yourself – how can you apply to your own life – the life of Jesus as he defeated Satan?

As you discuss these truths from scripture and evaluate your own personal lives, let me encourage you to be open and honest with your Life Group.  Pretending that your life is easy and that you defeat the enemy all the time is not reality.  War is Ugly.  Battle wounds hurt.  Be open about them.

If you have any questions please let me know!
