Sermon Discussion Questions – Week 2 – Incarnation

Discussions From Sunday, April 15, 2018, Sermon

The birth of a baby is an amazing experience.  My wife and I have 2 children and fortunately I was able to be in the room for both births.  One birth was fairly normal – I can say that as the Man – while the second was anything but normal.  Regardless of the way the birth took place, both were absolutely incredible.  The miracle of life being formed inside of my wife, the nurturing that takes place during those long nine months, the formation and details that take place are absolutely mind blowing.
This is the setting that God chose to enter Earth through.  God did not come to us as a warrior, although His is a warrior.  God did not choose to come to us in the form of a powerful leader, although He is a powerful leader.  God did enter humanity as an ancient Elder, although He is wisdom.  God chose to come to us as a vulnerable child born of a virgin who was pledged to be married to a man named Joseph.  A teenage couple in love is the means to which the Savior of the World would come!  Why?
Week 2 of our journey though Luke brings us to the beginning of Jesus’ story.  As you listen to the message or even hopefully were able to join us for worship on Sunday morning, let me encourage you to keep your heart opened to a fresh look at the “Christmas Story” without all the commercialism of Christmas.

Read Luke 1:5- Chapter 2

Discussion Questions

  • How does Jesus’ life bring LIFE?
  • Read Philippians 2:5-7 – What does this verse do for your Heart?
  • When was the beginning for Jesus?  Yes, this is a trick question.  For more on this read John 1:1-5, Genesis 1:1-2, Genesis 1:26-27,
  • When was the last time you bragged about staying at a hotel that was trashy?  You may have stayed somewhere that was not up to your standards but you were not bragging about it but rather complaining about it.
  • What was so humbling about the way that Jesus was born?  Why was there no room for him?  What did Jesus being born in a manger allow for?
  • When you were born was there capabilities for your parents to find out if you were a boy or a girl?  Depending on your age, probably not.  I know this may bring a few jokes, but when my twin brother and I were born, the doctors told my mom that we were 1 big girl up to two weeks before we were born – then the doctors changed and said – hey there is two of them in there.
  • How is the Fulfilled Prophecies about the birth of Jesus important to the discipleship process?

  • Who had Salvation Been Born to? Read Luke 2:10-11
  • Why is the idea of Incarnation so important to our faith?
  • Why do you celebrate the birth of Jesus?  When was the last time you celebrated the birth of Christ Tomlin?  So why Jesus?
