“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:11
This is such a powerful passage for us today! What day did the Angels declare that a Savior was born to the shepherds? “THIS DAY!” If the specific day and month were important, I would imagine the Angels would have said, “Today the 25th of December a Savior is born to you …” The beauty of the passage is that they did not say this! I believe you are aware enough to know that Jesus was not born on December 25th, and that the church adopted this day as a celebration of Jesus’ birth in order to have a celebration to align with pagan celebrations. I praise God that the specifics of what day Jesus was born is not mentioned, so why do we focus so much attention on this day? The day is not the focus of our Christmas this year, but the Impact of the Story is the transformational emphasis.
The story of the Angels coming to the Shepherds is my favorite part of the birth of Jesus. Besides the truth that God Himself came to us, the Shepherds being approached by the Angels is incredible.
