Empowered: Explaining The Life Of Jesus Week 10

Life Group Discussion Questions Based Upon Sermon On June 10, 2018

Have you ever found out that you had broken some law that you had no idea was a law?  Going 55 MPH in a 35 MPH zone is not something you can talk your way out of and say, I thought these were suggested speed limits … Not going to work with the judge.  There are all sorts of laws that are still on the law books but make no sense at all.  I am sure there are some very funny stories that go along with some of these laws.

This week in Luke, we will see Jesus beginning to teach and He begins with teaching regarding some laws.  Of course Jesus teaching on this topic in his day was very alarming to the religious leaders.  Today a lot of people follow the opposite and just say, If it feels good do it and if it does not feel good do not do it.  This does not make sense either.  Jesus has some amazing insights regarding how we are to live our lives as His Followers.  Jesus is focusing this teaching in Luke chapter 6 at the Disciples.  Let me encourage you to read and reflect upon Jesus’ teachings and look at how you are living according to His ways and not the ways of man.

Discussion Questions For Life Groups:

  • What are some laws you have heard about that make no sense to you – For example: In Missouri it is against the law to drive down the road with an uncaged bear in your car.
  • Have a discussion about what each of you believe is best practices for the Sabbath.
  • When was the last time you actually took a Sabbath Rest?  What did you do?
  • What was God’s intent for the Sabbath?
  • Which one do you feel more aligned with: the crippled man in need of Jesus or the Pharisees who are just looking for ways to complain all the time?  Be honest!
  • What kind of response do you think the Pharisees would have given if Jesus gave them the opportunity to respond?  Read Luke 6:9-11
  • Read James 4:17 – What are your thoughts on this verse?  If you know you are to do something good and you do not do it then it is sin.  What are some practical life situations that you have seen this played out?
  • How well do you feel that you know scriptures?
How are you at following after the ways of God without focusing on what others want you do do?
How are you at standing up for others?
  • How can you explain the life of Jesus through his teachings?

As always, if you are in need of a community that you can process these questions with, please reach out to us so we can get you connected with a Life Group.  This Summer Time is a  perfect time to get connected to a Life Group and begin that journey of Building Relationships!  https://lighthousechurch.net/groups
